What is profhilo?

Most skin boosters have a low concentration of hyaluronic acid injected, which is injected in small amounts throughout the face, in order to improve hydration. They contain 10-15mg/ml of non stabilised  hyaluronic acid deleivered by numerous injections at 1cm intervals. Non stabilised hyaluronic acid does not hang around for very long and you could argue any results are due to the numerous puncture wounds (i.e. a microneedling treatment)

Profhilo contains a whopping 64mg/2ml of hyaluronic acid. It is a thermally stabilised hybrid complex of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. This means it is in the skin for at least a month, which is long enough to do what it is designed to do.

Unlike other products, Profhilo is much more than just skin hydration.  Yes the high molecular weigh component sucks in water but the clever part is the low molecular weight component. Low molecular weight hyaluronic signals fibroblasts and keratinocytes in the skin to make more collagen, more elastin and more of the skin’s own natural hyaluronic acid production which is where the extra hydration comes from. Also skin functions better as skin cell communicate via short chain hyaluronic acid.

Profhilo is not simply a skin booster, it is a bioremodeller and can be used for skin laxity anywhere. In addition Profhilo has been shown to help fat under the skin which gives a more lifted appearance even though it is not a filler.

There is no downtime from this Profhilo treatment, and no anaesthetic is needed.

There will be 5 small lumps on each side of the face after treatment but these spread within hours. Bruising is unlikely due to the depth of the injection.

It is worth noting that there is nothing else that behaves like profhilo and this is the only product that should be injected via the 5 bioaesthetic points (BAPs)

FAQs

What is Profhilo and how does it work?

Profhilo is an advanced injectable treatment made from highly purified hyaluronic acid that is designed to improve overall skin quality rather than add volume. At Enhance Clinispa in Bolton, Dr Fab uses Profhilo to stimulate collagen and elastin production within the skin. Once injected at specific points, it spreads beneath the surface to hydrate, firm, and remodel the skin, resulting in a smoother, more radiant appearance.

Profhilo is typically performed as a course of two treatments, spaced around four weeks apart. This two-step protocol allows the product to stimulate collagen effectively and deliver optimal results. In some cases, maintenance treatments every 6–9 months are recommended to maintain skin quality.

Profhilo is most commonly used on the face, but it can also treat areas prone to skin laxity such as the neck, décolletage, hands, arms, or knees. During your consultation at Enhance Clinispa, Dr Fab will assess your skin and advise which areas would benefit most from treatment.

No. While Profhilo contains hyaluronic acid like dermal fillers, it does not create structure or volume in the same way. Instead, it works by deeply hydrating the skin and stimulating natural collagen production, improving texture, elasticity, and firmness without altering facial shape.

Downtime with Profhilo is minimal. Small injection bumps may be visible at the treatment points immediately after the procedure, but these usually settle within 24 hours. Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness can occur but typically resolves quickly, allowing you to return to normal activities the same day.
