What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is another of our exfoliation techniques.
Dermaplaning is a superficial, painless procedure that removes a buildup of dead skin and microscopic/vellus hairs.
When left, the complexion can appear dull and flaky and may become prone to breakouts due to blocked pores and hair follicles.
Unlike microdermabrasion, which focuses solely on removing dead skin, dermaplaning also removes the vellus hair, which, from a make-up application point of view, is an absolute GAME CHANGER!
There is no peach fuzz showing through foundation/powders and no more fluff in the sunlight. Just a super smooth application and finish with a more effective absorption of skincare products.
What's our process?
Before treatment
Before undergoing dermaplaning, you will meet with a skincare specialist to discuss your reasons for seeking the treatment and to allow them to examine your skin. In the days leading up to the procedure, it is important to take extra care by avoiding direct sunlight, refraining from exfoliating, and staying away from tanning beds. Your specialist will provide tailored guidance on how to prepare your skin properly.
During treatment
A dermaplaning session can last anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. No anaesthetic is needed for the procedure. Using a small blade tool, the specialist will gently glide over your skin to remove the top layers. The treatment is not painful, although you may notice a mild stinging sensation.
After treatment
As dermaplaning is non-invasive and painless, there is no downtime and you can return to your normal activities straight away. Results are visible immediately and typically last for around a month. Some redness or swelling may appear but should subside within a week. After your session, your specialist will give you aftercare instructions, which usually include avoiding sun exposure and strenuous activity to support the best results.

FAQs
Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker or darker?
No, this is a common myth. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair (often called “peach fuzz”), but it does not change the structure of the hair follicle. The hair will grow back at the same speed, colour, and thickness as before — it may simply feel slightly blunt as it grows through initially.
How often should I have dermaplaning?
Most clients benefit from treatment every 4–6 weeks, which aligns with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Regular sessions at Enhance Clinispa in Bolton help maintain smoother texture, brighter skin, and improved product absorption.
Is there any downtime?
Dermaplaning has minimal downtime. Your skin may appear slightly pink immediately after treatment, but this usually settles within a few hours. Most clients return to normal activities the same day, although it’s important to wear SPF and avoid excessive sun exposure following treatment.
Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning?
It’s best to allow your skin to breathe for the rest of the day if possible. However, mineral makeup can usually be applied after 24 hours. Many clients find that makeup applies much more smoothly after dermaplaning due to the removal of dead skin and fine hair.
Is dermaplaning suitable for sensitive skin?
Dermaplaning can be suitable for many skin types, including sensitive skin, as it is a gentle, non-invasive exfoliation method. However, it may not be recommended if you have active acne, certain skin conditions, or very reactive skin. A consultation at Enhance Clinispa will determine whether it is appropriate for you.
