Why Obagi Nu-Derm®?
The Nu-Derm® System is a prescription, medical grade skin care system that can actually transform your skin at a cellular level. Addressing the signs of photodamage and restoring the healthy function of skin cells, this system is clinically proven to result in younger, healthier-looking skin.
Our Aesthetician Nichola has a wealth of experience in various skin care systems and can guide you through a personalised skin protocol for your skin concerns.
The regimes can be complicated, incurring reactive phases such as dryness, breakouts and irritation. From start to finish we are on hand every step of the way to guide through the process. Rest assured this skin transformation is without question so dramatic, the minor inconvenience will be worth it.
What's our process?
Step 1
Your Obagi Nu-Derm journey at Enhance Clinispa in Bolton begins with a consultation with Dr Fab, where your skin is assessed and your goals are discussed (for example, pigmentation, uneven tone, sun damage, or texture). Because Nu-Derm can include prescription-strength ingredients in some versions (such as hydroquinone and/or tretinoin), Dr Fab will confirm suitability, talk you through realistic outcomes, and set up a plan for how to introduce products gradually and safely—especially if your skin is sensitive.
Step 2
Before starting, you’ll be advised to simplify your routine so your skin can tolerate the active ingredients. This usually means pausing harsh exfoliants and being consistent with daily SPF, as brightening and renewing products can make skin more reactive to sunlight. You’ll also be shown the correct order to apply products (generally thinnest to thickest, with SPF last in the morning), and how much to use so you don’t overload the skin
Step 3
Nu-Derm is used as a structured routine, typically morning and evening. In the morning, you’ll cleanse and tone, then apply your treatment steps (commonly including the brightening product such as Clear/Clear Fx), followed by the exfoliating step if it’s in your plan (such as Exfoderm/Exfoderm Forte), and you’ll finish with sunscreen. In the evening, you’ll cleanse and tone again, then apply the evening treatment steps—often including Blender/Blender Fx and (where prescribed) a retinoid such as tretinoin—so the skin can renew overnight. Dr Fab will tailor the exact product combination and frequency to your skin and tolerance.
Step 4
It’s normal to go through an “adjustment phase” early on, where you may notice dryness, tightness, mild flaking, or temporary redness as your skin adapts. Dr Fab will guide you on how to support the skin barrier during this time (for example, spacing out active nights if needed) while keeping you on track for results. Improvements in tone and clarity build gradually over weeks, and sun protection remains essential throughout to protect your progress and help prevent pigmentation from returning.

FAQs
What skin concerns does Obagi Nu-Derm treat?
Obagi Nu-Derm is designed to improve uneven skin tone, pigmentation, sun damage, melasma, and overall skin texture. At Enhance Clinispa in Bolton, Dr Fab often recommends it for patients who want a more even, brighter, and clearer complexion through a structured, medical-grade skincare programme rather than a single in-clinic treatment.
How long does it take to see results?
Many patients begin to notice improvements in brightness and clarity within a few weeks. However, the full programme typically runs for 12–18 weeks, as the system works by encouraging skin cell turnover and correcting pigmentation at a deeper level. Consistency is key to achieving optimal results.
Will my skin peel or become red?
It is common to experience some dryness, redness, tightness, or mild peeling, particularly in the early stages. This is a normal part of the skin renewal process. Dr Fab will guide you through what to expect and adjust your routine if needed to ensure your skin remains healthy and manageable throughout the programme.
Do I need to wear SPF while using Nu-Derm?
Yes — daily SPF is essential. Because Nu-Derm increases skin cell turnover and targets pigmentation, your skin can become more sensitive to the sun. Wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day helps protect your results and prevents further pigmentation from developing.
Is Obagi Nu-Derm suitable for all skin types?
Nu-Derm can be suitable for many skin types, but not everyone is an ideal candidate. During your consultation at Enhance Clinispa, Dr Fab will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and determine whether Nu-Derm or an alternative skincare approach would be more appropriate for you.
