Scarring
A scar is an area of fibrous tissue that replaces normal skin after an injury. Inflammatory processes and damage to the skin cause an increase in type 3 collagen, which is the primary component of scar tissue. A scar can be depressed due to loss of dermal thickness or raised due to an over exaggerated healing response.
At Enhance Clinispa, we can treat various types of scarring ranging from Acne Scars, Surgical Scars, Hypertrophic Scars and Keloid Sars.
What causes scarring?
Discover what causes this condition and how it can it can impact you.
Injury
Any trauma to the skin, such as cuts, burns, or surgical wounds, can trigger scar formation. The depth and severity of the injury often determine how noticeable the scar becomes.
Inflammation
Persistent inflammation, particularly from conditions such as acne or skin irritation, can disrupt normal healing. This increases the risk of both atrophic (indented) and hypertrophic (raised) scarring.
Genetics
Individual healing responses vary. Some people are more prone to developing thicker or more visible scars, including keloid or hypertrophic scarring, due to genetic predisposition.
Surgical/Cosmetic Procedures
While performed in controlled settings, procedures that penetrate or resurface the skin can lead to scarring if healing is impaired or if the skin is predisposed. Proper aftercare and clinical guidance are essential to minimise this risk.
