Fat Removal With Aqualyx
Aqualyx is ideal for removing small localised areas of fat from those stubborn parts of the face or body. These areas are commonly hard, if not impossible to target with diet and exercise alone. Larger areas can be dealt with although this may require a longer period of time with many more sessions necessary. Due to this, sometimes an intervention such as liposuction or cryolipolysis (fat freezing) may be more suitable for your needs. We can advise on this during your initial consultation.

What is Fat Removal With Aqualyx?
While fat anywhere can be treated, Dr.Fab favours the use of Aqualyx in the face, where the results for double chins and jowls are stunning after 3 sessions. To further enhance facial contouring we sometimes like to combine both Aqualyx and fillers to augment the cheekbones, jawline and chin. This maybe necessary in older ladies.
Aqualyx is deoxycholic acid and works by damaging the cell membranes of fat cells so the stored fatty acids are released and metabolised. The immune system then mops up what is left of the fat cell. Fat removal is permanent however remaining fat cells can keep storing fat so it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Aqualyx is designed to break fat down slowly so the skin is able to recover. The inflammation after treatment is paramount in helping the skin to tighten.
Three sessions, at 4 week intervals are ideally required to see desired results in the face. Fat removal in other areas of the body may need 6-8 sessions.
After treatment there will be swelling for up to 1-2 weeks. Bruising is quite likely and the treated area may feel hard or lumpy. It is also worth noting that in some cases skin sensation may be temporarily altered for a short period.
The treatment is painfree. This is due to the Aqualyx being injected into the fat layer under the skin. Here there is an absence of nerves and we also manage this by the use of fine needles which are changed at regular intervals. If desired a small amount of local anaesthetic can be added to the Aqualyx to further guarantee client comfort.
What's our process?
Step 1
At Enhance Clinispa in Bolton, your Aqualyx fat-removal journey begins with a consultation with Dr Fab to confirm you’re suitable and that Aqualyx is the right option for your concern. Aqualyx is used for small, stubborn pockets of fat that haven’t responded to diet and exercise (it isn’t a weight-loss treatment), so Dr Fab will assess the area, discuss your goals, explain expected outcomes, and map out an appropriate course of sessions.
Step 2
In the days leading up to treatment, you’ll be guided on how to reduce the chance of bruising and ensure a smooth appointment. Many clinics advise avoiding alcohol shortly beforehand and being cautious with non-prescribed blood-thinning medications such as ibuprofen/aspirin (only change medication if it’s medically appropriate for you). On the day, arrive well hydrated, having eaten normally, and wear comfortable, loose clothing if a body area is being treated.
Step 3
On the day, the area is cleansed and marked, and Dr Fab may use a local anaesthetic to improve comfort. Aqualyx is then injected into the targeted fatty pocket using precise technique so the product is distributed evenly across the area being treated. The appointment is typically quick, and you can usually return to normal day-to-day activities afterwards, with some expected tenderness or swelling.
Step 4
After Aqualyx, it’s normal to experience swelling, tenderness and sometimes bruising while your body processes the treated fat. You’ll usually be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and heat exposure (such as saunas/steam rooms) for a short period, and you may be given specific guidance about massage/compression depending on the area and technique used. Results develop gradually, often becoming noticeable over the following weeks, and repeat sessions are commonly spaced several weeks apart to allow full settling between treatments

FAQs
What does the treatment feel like?
The treatment is quite painless to have done but afterwards the treatment area can ache for several days.
How do I maintain my results?
When fat has been destroyed, it won’t come back. However, we don’t get rid of every fat cell in the area, and so maintaining a healthy lifestyle is advisable.
What can I expect after treatment?
Initially, there will be excessive swelling which lasts approx. a week. Thereafter, as the fat is being destroyed, it is normal to feel hard lumps in the area that the body will clear up in a month. The skin in the area will have altered sensation but this does recover within a few weeks.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need 3 sessions, one month apart. More sessions are required for body fat.
Will I be left with sagging skin?
No. The fat breakdown is gradual, the skin has time to recover.
Am I suitable for treatment?
The ideal candidate would hae small pockets of fat that are difficult to remove with diet and exercise alone.
